What Are the Most Common Eye Diseases?

Aug 19, 2021 | Uncategorized

In different parts of the world, wearing glasses means different things. For example, in western society, people normally do not wear glasses as often as in oriental society. This might have to do with certain societal beauty norms, or it might only mean that some people find wearing glasses uncomfortable. Who knows?

Although, what everyone should know is that there are eye diseases, and these need to be treated by eye specialists. This article will mention a few of the most common eye diseases.

Eye Disorders.

Refractive Errors.

The most common eye disorders that cause vision loss are refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Refractive errors occur when light is incorrectly bent (or “refracted”) while traveling through the cornea. This results in a skewed picture. Refractive defects may be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or surgery, thankfully.

Glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a condition that affects the visual nerve. It usually happens when your intraocular pressure, or eye pressure, rises to dangerously high levels. If left untreated, glaucoma can result in severe visual loss, including blindness.

Cataracts.

Cataracts can occur in either one or both eyes. As time passes, eyesight deteriorates. Common cataract symptoms are cloudy or blurred vision, double vision, lens discoloration, light sensitivity, glare, and halos. Cataracts can lead to complete blindness if not treated.

Eye Diseases Related to High Blood Pressure.

High blood pressure can cause eye disorders like hypertensive retinopathy if it is not managed. When you have hypertensive retinopathy, the blood vessels in your retina get damaged, causing visual difficulties and headaches.
